Churchill on democracy
I find this intriguing.

Yes, these people are dingbats and know-nothings, but I'm inclined to blame the system, because they have no incentive to be sane: quite how it is that 'Government of the people, by the people, for the people' reduces to Ben Nelson micro-managing the country is a mystery to me, but that seems to be how it is. Nobody else matters, so they might as well fiddle while the world burns.

I'd like to know whether George Stephanopoulos responded to the implication that he'd said CO2 is carcinogenic. I think a lot of the world's ills could be alleviated by journalists' learning how to ask follow-up questions and respond to what was said instead of saying "uh-huh" and moving on to their next prepared question.

Can Bachmann be impeached for stupidity?

Stephanopoulos chose to focus on whether Boehner thinks GW is a problem, but he certainly tried for the follow-up. But this is the kind of thing he was up against:

BOEHNER: I think it is -- I think it is an issue. The question is, what is the proper answer and the responsible answer?

STEPHANOPOULOS: And what is the answer? That's what I'm trying to get at.

BOEHNER: George, I think everyone in America is looking for the proper answer.

In the end he gave up.

It's one of the consolations of opposition that you can say "I don't know what I want, but this isn't it" about pretty much anything.
